ATNZ’s biggest challenge is creating a pipeline of talented young people to fill apprenticeship vacancies throughout New Zealand. We strengthened our partnerships with industry training providers (ITPs) in 2017 to continue building pathways from trades training into employment.
A key focus in 2017 was a strategic relationship with Manukau Institute of Technology (MIT), where young people undertake pre-trade training in general engineering, mechanical engineering, and refrigeration and air conditioning. As well as increasing the amount of time in front of students to promote apprenticeship opportunities, we have increased the frequency of our communication with MIT to extend the conversation and explore how the partnership can be mutually beneficial.
In 2018 we plan to develop a wider partnership strategy to establish valuable relationships with more of New Zealand’s major ITPs.
